Breaking the Mold: CNA Employees Showcase What It Means to Work in Insurance
February is Insurance Careers Month – a great time to reflect on the diverse paths and opportunities within the insurance industry. To provide insight on what it’s like to work in insurance, we sat down with two CNA employees, Tri Hoang, Technology Underwriter, and Jorge Bravo, Business Analysis Director, who exemplify the industry’s potential for growth, innovation and impact.
Getting Your Foot in the Door
The road to a career in insurance isn’t always linear, and the industry welcomes new employees from a wide range of backgrounds. Professionals from finance, technology and other fields often find that their expertise translates easily into insurance, opening doors to long and fulfilling careers. Insurance provides a place to grow and contribute meaningfully.
“After graduating, I was determined to find a job in a stable industry, preferably one that had a product with inelastic demand. I took on various roles – at a local managing general agent, in project management in construction and at an insurance brokerage – before landing at CNA where I found I really enjoy the carrier side.” – Tri Hoang
“Before joining CNA, I spent 10 years in fast food, with previous roles in construction and retail as well. When CNA offered me a spot in their claims training program, I saw it as a path to underwriting – my ultimate goal - and 14 years later, I’m proud to still be here.” – Jorge Bravo
Skills for the Modern Insurance Professional
The rapidly evolving insurance industry offers opportunities to apply sharp skills like adaptability, digital literacy and client empathy. Training, mentorship and professional development programs help insurance professionals grow, learn and tackle new challenges.
“In today’s digital world, nothing beats the impact of a real, in-person connection when it comes to building rapport. At the same time, technical skills are more critical than ever as the industry continues to advance.” – Tri Hoang
Making an Impact
Careers in insurance can be inspiring, innovative and rewarding. From analyzing risks to supporting communities after casualties, the work is both purposeful and varied.

The Future of Insurance
As technology advances, climate risks evolve and client needs shift, the next decade promises dynamic growth and new challenges. The focus is on preparing today’s workforce – and the next generation – to navigate what’s ahead in the changing insurance landscape.
