New Arkansas Rule on Client Files Covers Ownership, Copies, Retention, Destruction
The Arkansas Supreme Court Dec. 15 adopted a comprehensive professional conduct rule on lawyers’ responsibilities about client files. The detailed new rule puts Arkansas at the forefront of initiatives to clarify lawyers’ obligations on the subject of client files. The rule goes into effect Jan. 1.
“This rule could serve as a model for other states to adopt,” Sean Ginty, consulting director of risk control at CNA Insurance, Chicago, told Bloomberg BNA.
