Dino Robusto is Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of CNA Financial Corporation (CNA), one of the largest U.S. commercial property and casualty insurers, providing comprehensive insurance solutions to over one million businesses and professionals.
The Company was founded in 1897 and is listed on both the New York and the Chicago stock exchanges. With over 6,000 insurance professionals across North America, the U.K. and Continental Europe, CNA generates $10 billion in annual revenues, has invested assets of over $45 billion and provides policyholder security via shareholders’ equity of $12 billion and total capital of $14 billion.
Since joining CNA in November 2016, Dino has re-energized the business and reinvigorated its underwriting culture. He has done this through an intense focus on underwriting discipline, underwriting acumen, distribution partnerships and talent development. As a passionate, life-long learner, Dino inspires collaboration and knowledge sharing; he strongly believes in the power of motivating these behaviors to improve the skillset of individuals, employee engagement and the collective capabilities of the enterprise.
Shortly after joining the Company, Dino set a goal to deliver top-quartile underwriting performance on a sustained basis. Through targeted execution against CNA’s underwriting strategies, momentum has grown and progress is evidenced by strong underlying performance trends. Over three years since the goal was established, CNA closed the performance gap to top-peers by two points, as measured by three year average calendar year combined ratios.
Dino is a recognized industry leader with extensive experience across virtually every insurance discipline. He spent almost 30 years of his career at Chubb where he was Executive Vice President and President of Chubb’s Commercial and Specialty Lines division before joining CNA. Prior to this role, he held leadership positions including President of Personal Lines, Chief Claims Officer, Chief Administration Officer and Commercial Field Operations Officer as well as roles with responsibility and oversight for functional areas including Human Resources, Information Technology, Communications, Corporate Development and Innovation.
Dino holds a bachelor’s degree in commerce, finance and economics from McGill University in Montreal, and he is a graduate of the Wharton Business School Executive Management Program.
Dino serves on the Board of Directors of Junior Achievement USA and the Board of Trustees for The Institutes as well as the Board of Overseers for the Maurice R. Greenberg School of Risk Management, Insurance and Actuarial Science. He is also a signatory to PwC’s CEO Action for Diversity & Inclusion™. Prior to joining CNA, he served on the Board of Directors of Applied Systems and RAND Corporations Institute for Civil Justice as well as the Board of Advisors of Catalyst Inc.
